HE GOT OUT!! Lewis was born two weeks ago to Sally and Wayne. That happy smile on Sally's face is quite different from the one we saw the Friday before we went away as she awaited and wondered about his arrival "patiently"...There is nothing like the arrival joy of a tiny new baby to bring to our minds the reason we are all here. Heart felt congratulations to Sally and Wayne, Oliver and Daniel on their new addition to the Material Obsession...I mean Harding family! We look forward to sharing his life and watching him grow up!
We have watched and waited with Sally throughout the last months brewing the new baby and at the same time we have watched Meg with her Karen Cunningham quilt. She considered and auditioned and painstakingly hand pieced this quilt for this birth of another nature...
I think you will all agree that each choice she made was magnificent! It is balanced and simply gorgeous and well worth the incubation period.
In the final chapters on the retreat we must consider Lindy's Tokyo Rose which she did in one day! This quilt just keeps on making people happy!
Sheena brought up this vintage star quilt that we are all loving for it's scrap happy stars. She is adding the triangle border to it but the scrap pile projects allure was too great and she set this project aside just shy of attaching the borders which will be a fantastic addition to this gift from the past.
Look forward to seeing more of Rachael's stars twinkling as she dives into her suitcase full of Kaffe Fassett fabrics. Seriously, you should see this gal's stash of old favorites!! I spent a fair bit of time just staring, petting, sorting and folding while she makes these stars up...YUM.
And for the last shot...this was my v. messy corner in Morpeth (which very much resembles the mess in my sewing space at this very moment). I tried to be tidy but alas, the mess is intrinsically related to the process for me. I beg the question, can we find order in chaos? Do we need to? If chance is our creative director can we predict success? If it's the journey (grasshopper!) discovering what happens at the end of the road is just another joyful step on the trip. We grow babies in secret spaces waiting for the instant reveal at birth...and hope with all our hearts for a wonder filled result. all the best, kathy
