Ok, if the last few weeks in the shop are any indication of what's to come this year all I can say is REV it UP and let's Ride! The classes are all full! The shelves are all full! The last few additions to the classrooms are done!
We have had lots of new faces in the shop this year which is really fun. Remarkably people are finding us in our new location. We get calls from up the road, across the road and some from those about to get on the road asking where we are. To us it seems like forever since we moved, almost as if the old shop never even existed but for some passing by I know they go into a state of shock when they see the empty shop across the road. All they need to do is turn around but that doesn't always happen.
One of the new faces to quilting this year was Vicki. She came in a few weeks back to make a baby quilt for her daughter-in-law and future grandchild. Here it is now.
Some of us are daughters, (most of us probably) and some of us are mothers...some are mothers-in-law...wait, I am going somewhere with this. Thing is, it is a relationship riddled with self doubt from both angles. We aim to please but sometimes it is hard. It's hard enough balancing our husbands and sons so when a baby is thrown into the equation...well... it is almost always an impossible emotional task trying to figure out what to do so everyone is happy all the time. It can be an emotional roller coaster.
I think Vicki has scored on this little beauty and double time since it's her first quilt! Who wouldn't love getting this sweet little cot quilt. And what did Vicki get out of it already? I think it might be a quilting bug! She was back already looking for another project today.
Sarah and I say it all the time. One of the best things about having a patchwork shop is sharing projects with everyone that walks through the door. We really love it. One might even think we live vicariously through your projects. Having said that, it isn't always possible to have enough time to help everyone every time but we try. Some days it gets a bit busy and all we can do is cut endless piles of fabric and answer the phone. The best days for us are the ones with a steady stream of people looking to play with fabric.
If there is ever a time when you need extra help and we seem unavailable let us know. If you really need help picking a project and want to be guaranteed time you can ring us in advance. Believe it or not we aim to please. If you don't get an answer from us the first time, please try again. For the best result, email is a great way to reach us for a response.
In the big balancing act that is womanhood there are days when we can't get a smile. Today my youngest one was off to high school from junior school. He wasn't happy in his shirt and shorts and shoes which he thought were all too big. And then the books were too heavy...we decided then and there that with this face...
the day was off to a less than perfect start. Good thing it ended better. It was hot enough to melt into a hot pile of pudding today. At the same time Damain and John both arrived at the shop with fans...the whirling kind to cool us off. Very nice.
So to all of us balancing more than we should be...we need to focus on one thing at a time and hopefully non of us will fall down. more later. kathy
