ahhhh. I know I say it every time but there is something so relaxing about not getting up to make lunches and get boys on trains! With all the things going on at the moment it means a lot to take an extra ten minutes to think through what to do next! In actual fact today it was a relief to wake up as I was dreaming that we were having a dinner party for a lot of people. I was trying to count how many people were sitting around the table but kept loosing count at 60. John was in the kitchen doing the cooking and wouldn't let me help and then I decided there was no option but to have a drink and there was nothing left at the bar. The guests were getting hungry and looking for food ... oh dear, too much stress when one is supposed to be resting! I do NOT want to know what the dream meant. Suffice to say I won't be having a dinner party until the memory fades.
Those crazy hexagon marathon making ladies are at it again...
There is no end to the delight of these hexagon compositions be they big or small. Fingers going at it morning, noon and night turning out the rewards of individual efforts.
Their baskets are filled with the prettiest of things and the table covered with stacks of eye grabbing tiny features which make the experience that much more pleasurable.
This little beauty hit the wall on Friday. The feature fabric takes us back a few eras. The color combinations make us hang around there absorbing the peaceful movement as the eye swoops around the beautifully composed heap. What you can't see in this image is the stack of options for what comes next.
The stack of possibilities. I love that moment. The options gather and we all wait to see what the maker will say. What choice will she make about her work? There is a little challenge for Marg amongst some of these quilters to see just how complicated and time consuming the next round of borders might be.
This is another version of the quilt above but with different colours.
I love the detail consideration and the fussy cutting...or not...it just simply makes you smile!
Brigitte Gibin has been hard at it as well and created this lovely piece. The use of Kaffe Fassett fabrics in this style of quilts opens the mind to lots of possibilities. Although we have fallen in love with his fabrics for their large graphics they make an impression when cut in an intereting manner as well. The new range is rich in textured prints. I know I go on about it but Brandon Mably has made some fantastic graphic prints that bring flowers, stems, birds and the rest of your quilts to life. We have the full new range and it is well worth having a look at for your next project.
And what do we have here? The next raffle quilt for the 2012 Hunters Hill Quilt show is under way. We conducted our first workshop and althought we have a fair bit left to do things are shaping up quite nicely. Everyone "made" fabric from their scraps. We used the templates from my Now & Then pattern in book two and cut out the tulips. We then used a Starter Quilt template by Cath for the tiny tulips and the quilt is now ready for applique!
Not all marathon news happens in the shop. Here we have the lovely Michele at the starting line of the Paris Marathon! Michele was one of our favorite quitlers at MO until she moved back to Colorado last year. We feed her MO habit by mail now! Then this morning I got this photo. How happy does she look!
Although I like a bit of a run in the AM the thought of a marathon makes me weak in the knees. Congratulations to Michele for complete this run...and now that I think about it she won her age group in Phoenix recently too. Inspiration for us all to get up and GO! I owe my running habit to Michele. When she fist came to the shop she talked to me about the headset needed to run and I often remember her words when the going gets tough.
Speaking of marathon efforts, our Cheryl, one of the founding members of the Cut Loose quilters and the one to always keep me in check with a sideways glance...celebrated the wedding of her gorgeous daughter last week. I love this photo of her with her family. We know each other over scraps of fabric and it means so much to see her standing there with the other half of her life...the family half. How happy to they look! what a moment to capture..so full of potential happiness, memories and promise.
So now, having shared a few happy faces I must be off for a run while the power of Michele is still in my head. Take care. k

Oh, that purple and yellow quilt is stunning! How lucky are you, seeing the products of so many creative people each day. I'm so jealous!
Enjoy your break from school lunches and bus-catching. Well, at least for the next fortnight!
