Toot Toot! Board the MO express train as we chug on out of Sydney to a few exciting locations nearby and around the globe! Yes, our bags are rarely unpacked as we take Making Quilts...the promise of joy on the road to a location near you!
On the distant horizon is The Quilters Affair, Sisters, Oregon 2013!!!!
Yes, the Aussie Posse from Material Obsession is returning to the US northwest and bringing bags packed with goodies to show and tell. I'll be teaching 3 different quilts over five days and am honoured to have been asked to speak at the Friday night picnic on the lawn!
We'll be bringing a selection of quilts from the big open spaces of Australia to Sisters and love every minute of it. Already we are discussing accomodation, travel routes and getting massively excited for another exciting quilting adventure with some of our favourite teachers and of course...The Stitching Post. And...we are in the process of desinging a quilt to donate to the event...oh the fingers tingle at the thought as we discuss the possibilities...Our numbers are growing for the voyage as the lure of gathering under the shadow of the mountains and trees for quilt classes and shows is strong. I feel each day slipping by but know there are many before we start packing.
From there we head east to New York state for Quilting by the Lake another top notch quilter's event. This event is well established and runs like clockwork as quilters explore their inner workings while learning techniques from the best. Last year I had an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish making faces with Rosalie Dace and by my side my friend Kathy .
This year I am teaching and hoping to see as many of you as possible at this excellent event!
One of the best side effects of Making Quilts...the promise of joy is that it is allowing me to get out on the road in Australia. When John and I hit the road to photograph the quilts we covered a lot of land. Now that the book is out I have very much enjoyed visiting new areas and teaching from the pages...spreading the joy perhaps. It is very rewarding for me to share the ideas in the book in as many places as possible...
First up is September (has anybody seen August?) and a trip to Queensland.
I am heading up to Toowoomba to for Quilting on the Downs . Lisa puts together a great event for students north of the border and tutors from all over. From the look of her blog we will feel right at home! I am sure that they will put the quilts in the book to good use as we discuss using colour and design for great effect.
Then in November the MO team is heading to Adelaide. This is a first for me as I have never been to Adelaide but I am looking forward to teaching colour and templates at Hettie's Patch . Wendy Williams is coming too! Loraine has my book in stock and we will soon cover the walls of the shop with Soul Searching and a few days of working templates as well.
Then, as if that isn't enough...we'll be setting up at the Adelaide Quilt and Craft Fair. Yep...we are taking this show on the road and looking forward to talking colour and design with quilters in Adelaide. We'll be sharing a space with our textile partner in crime Reece Scannell. The theme of the booth will be ...fabric...fabric...fabric and how to use it with great dramatic effect. Reece and I will be doing our Colour Workshop talk which was always to a full house in Sydney. If you live in the area and are looking for some new ideas...come on down for some fun. Of course if there is something from Material Obsession in Sydney you would like us to bring to the show...we are only an email away. Packing is more fun if we know we are bringing what you want...don't be shy!
I would also like to say thank you to all the lovely quilters that continually contact us about the book. I never tire reading your reaction to my book and I appreciate it in my heart that you get what I am trying to say. I might be the one to say it but I know a lot of people think it too! I am grateful and inspired by all of you. It is always a pleasure to talk colour, design and quilting with all of you be you near or far.
This week we finally realised that we have so many places to go that we needed a BIG calendar up on the wall so we now know when there is even a tiny space to fill! So...looking forward to seeing you over a pile of fabric soon! Enjoy!!!! k
