This was my view last week. Far from the design walls which are my choice views I could only look out the window of my hospital room!
It was time to finish up my breast cancer treatment with the second stage reconstruction surgery. I know I always wondered what was behind the secret curtain of breast cancer. What really happens? The second stage surgery was to remove the expander and insert a permanent implant. It was with relief and a tiny bit of excitement that I headed into the hospital for a few days of nurses and limited mobility. This time seemed so much easier than the last which was full of dread and fear. I am lucky...grateful every day for following up on a change in my breast. Quick action meant all the difference in the world in regard to my treatment and future. I thought the surgery would be a breeze and well, it wasn't as easy as I thought with a few complications but I am home now and feeling 100% better and ready to get back to concentrating on life.
Lots of wonderful things were happening before I slipped behind the curtain. Wendy used the new beauties from the Kaffe Fassett range and some of her stash to make this explosion of colour!
It simply makes the eye jiggle finding all the different colour and patternrelationships. Never one to walk in without a new project in tow...we don't know if we should laugh or cry at her productivity!
I had little warning to prepare for my hospital stay, but I did eek out a space of time and cut a bunch of hexagons for my recovery quilt. It was exciting to think that I would have to sit still for a few weeks...sick, I know! In order to keep them in groups I used these big Clover clips.
Being a bit of a scatter brain I liked the process of cutting the hexagons, covering the papers and then grouping them together. How often do we go back to a project and loose track of where we were? It was a pleasant surprise to come home after my trip to the ether land and find all this organised and ready for my attention.
I also have a quilt top ready to be bound and I love these big clips which aleviate that claw feeling that comes from holding the binding in place. I might just sit on the sofa in a minute, watch some crazy morning tv and get this one done!
While I am home I am enjoying watching our house get painted. It took us a few years to actually get the painters here and now we over the moon! No need to meniton it looks so much better just removing all the things that were resting on the verandah. We moved it all because we had to and now we must just toss it all.
The final stage is getting the deck stained. It is a huge deck that wraps all around the house so it is a big job but it will signal months of waking early for the painters and stepping over buckets of paint. Cheeky has fallen in love with our painting friends. Each day they bring her Croatian biscuits which she loves. She is always under their feet and has a paint stained tail to prove it...and there are a few spots where she has wagged the tail onto the house as well. Talk about a dog making it's mark!
Just loving it!
Having been away I am wondering where I left off...So many things coming to fruition at once. My surgery is now behind me! YEAH!!! Also... 18 years of schooling will be over in one short week for our family! Sam has one exam right now and Art next week and then ...a life of work. My Creative Bug classes are up and running. Our renovation is nearly finished 5 years later...Making Quilts is available in the USA and from all the emails I am getting is well received. However, that isn't the end of it. More things that we have been working on behind the scenes will soon be revealed.
You may just now be digging into Making Quilts but brace yourself because....wait for it... Adding Layers will be available in February as well as...Yep, our ever so popular Wendy has a book coming out in February with C&T Publishing that will feature a collection of some of her whimsical, wonderful, gorgeous designs, making tips and more, more MORE!
The unbearable lightness of being is upon me as all good things come to those that wait. Inhale. Exhale...one foot in front of the other until the first step is behind us and the next step coming up...can't wait to reveal more soon. BUT at the moment I am supposed to be relaxing...can anyone tell me what that means????? Bring...it...on!!!! love, k
