Merry after Christmas to everyone! We survived the holidays in Good cheer partially because we trimmed back on the fuss and let things be as they are meant to be. Our beach side holiday was the perfect plan. Slow mornings of the sun rising over the horizon of sea greeted us each morning.
The result...when Christmas finally arrived we were all happy and rested. It was a quiet day at home full of safe moments. We pulled way back on gifts this year choosing to buy selected gifts based on need. It felt good to reduce the amount of commercial cheer. Having said that I missed my tree. But on Christmas morning as the boys gathered their offerings I got the request for the carols cd and realised there were some easy essentials making it feel like Christmas. It is what it is and there is simple peace in that. I was at times aware of a niggling feeling that I should be doing more and yet...the less was best.
Noah won the "who is tallest" contest when the family gathered on Boxing Day. It was all as it should be...hurry up to get it all in order and then wait for everyone to arrive. Sit outside and then move due to rain! It doesn't matter...kids swim in rain, conversation is the same no matter where we gather. The biggest change was a lively current events conversation with our young adults. Top of their minds was the growing trend in physical abuse towards women!
