I know that there are heaps of you out there hording your favorite fabric things. I hear your stories and admit to the crime myself. From the tiniest of scraps to long yards of the latest and greatest or wonderful bits of vintage...we collect it, pet it, savor it, smell it and generally love it in piles. There is no limit to the amount of treasured bits we can accumulate and love. Then one day, a chance to use it arises and often the thought that follows is "I'll save that for something special." I think this thought frequently but lately I have been training myself to think that the special moment is upon me NOW and with wild abandon I cut into the treasure like a birthday cake.
Today I pulled out my absolute all time favorite bit of bark cloth that I bought only two years ago in Hawaii. That matched with another favorite bit purchased on the same trip ended up here today!
I am a bark cloth fanatic. I love the era from which it comes and the image of mountain cabins in the 1940's that it brings to mind. The pillows are nothing flash but that's the way I like it.
When talking scraps, cutter quilts come to mind. Sarah gave me one last year for my birthday and it has sat on the shelve like a ticking time bomb. I look at it and wonder...and think I could...I should...and then today it hit me!
Take another step back and Voila! A cutter quilt curtain in my sewing room.
How sweet is that? When I got it lined and hung up I was stunned by how lovely the pattern looked hanging there. I am convinced that the worn and torn bits don't detract but add character to the view. It feels good to have given life to the items in the pile. It is now and inviting place to sit and start quilting a new project tonight...
I encourage you to look at your stash of beauties and see what you can do to bring them to life. I am a bit worried that I might sit here staring the results all night. all the best. kathy

Great inspiration for the cutter quilt - the colours blend wonderfully, tying in with your black and green cushions - I also love barkcloth - it has such a unique style and feel.
