Sue Ross Saturdays are always exciting. Despite the sport season being back in full swing with rugby and soccer all over town I managed to stop in for some quick show and tell!
First off the rank...Elizabeth made this version of Kismet. It seems like only a day ago she was in the shop auditioning fabrics but here it is..all sewn up.
Then we had another Kismet done with some "vintage" Amy Butler...
Same pattern, completely different look made by Stephanie. Amazingly, both these quilts use the same pea green spot as well. Interchangeable parts...
Although it's a big quilt (really big quilt with the border!) it still has spots for featuring favorite bits of fabric.
But the real show and tell on the day is the progress made on Sue Ross's latest patterns in class. This quilt is foundation pieced and comes in a wide variety of interpretations as well..Kellie used a very sweet blue bird print that has just enough interest to stand alone but let the circle work stand out.
Stephanie has made her circles in bright colors with a touch of black and white to tie it all together. We had Sue stand alongside since she matched so nicely.
We then had to have Steph join in...since she matched head to toe!!!
Jennifer has done hers featuring a sweet Alexander Henry bird fabric which makes it all very tweet, I means sweet! Next time I'll catch these circles by Kate on her chosen reproduction backgrounds....there's a saying for this that has something to do with leopards and spots...
Marg has used a wide variety of colors and fabrics and amazingly pulled them all together with a great Phillip Jacobs floral print and shot cotton backgrounds and borders.
The borders in Sue's quilt are a bit different but Marg worked them to fit her design beautifully.
Look at the variety of fabrics used in this quilt. Shot cotton, Aboriginal, Phillip Jacob, spots, stripes and all the rest. Anything goes! Having said that, there are tricks to making it work, there are painful moments of self doubt along the way and there might be some unpicking or mind changing as the quilt progresses.
The next little beauty is by Kate. She has been quietly sitting in the corner working out these stars for a few sessions now. The points are surrounded by gingham bias binding and add such a nice touch. We all need to make one like this one day!
We ended show and tell with Marg walking us through her last blocks in the Sue Ross Block of the Month, Twisted Traditions. She decided to swap out some of the strip fabrics for some of her stash fabrics and was really happy with the results...and that reminds me...TWISTED TRADITIONS returns for Block of the Month round two this August 2010. It's a great way to get involved with some of the shop action no matter where you live.
We are finalizing the lists this week so if you are interested in hoping on board, learning new blocks and techniques and working contemporary fabrics then we have a popular BOM for you! At last count, we have just over 10 spots left so get in quick. And yes, we can ship it overseas and do to several countries all over the world!

They're all so beautiful! Would you happen to know if Stephanie is wearing Kaffe's Tropical Stripe sweater? The colors used there are amazing as well!

I particularly love Kate's Star pattern with the gingham bias binding. What a great idea to "frame" each star with the gingham binding: it reminds me of stained glass windows in a church! In comparison with the other quilts, which are all very beautiful, this one is much more "quiet" and yet very graphic and extremely effective. I cannot wait to see how the entire quilt turns out once Kate has added the border(s)! As always, thank you Kathy and all the ladies for the inspiration!

Your blog is truly one of my favorites. The inspiration is endless and I love everything you show. How I wish I could join you all in your shop. I don't know why AU needs to be so far from the U.S.!! Those patterns are amazing, the Lollipop Trees and all the others.

I LOVE seeing your blog as it so inspires me. It's eye candy like no other. I wish your shop were close - like on the west coast of the US - hehe I love everything you show. Thanks for showing and so often. You have an amazing group of talented quilters there. what is the pattern (and where can I get it) for the circle quilt - the ones with the ric-rac in the center circle.
