"I don't know where I am right now but when I get back I'll call you." That was my message on my answering machine in the 1980's. It seemed to say it all. Stating the truth is important. I could never get used to a message that said "You have reached..." when obviously, due to the machine answering, I hadn't reached my person at all. So, today, I can only wonder where I was when I left off and where I have been this past week...
Well, last week we had Sue Ross in the shop and since it was the first time I had visited her class this year I got excited when I saw this quilt. Fantastic pattern play here with lots of scraps in a design that captures the eye and holds it. I LOVE a secondary pattern. The eye focuses on one thing and then another moving all over the quilt. The quilts that were coming out of the bags were just as gorgeous but I was off to the Craft & Sewing show...
How often do you see these dedicated ladies holding down the fort for the guild? I admire their dedication to the task at hand...capturing all quilters and engaging them in the guild. Currently we are looking for under 35's for the Guild competition. If you or someone you love is under 35 and wants to make a quilt there are $21,000 worth of prizes on offer. The show is in September so get a wiggle on and grab an entry form from Quitlers Companion this month...and oh, by the way, when you pick up the magazine that is my quilt, Almost Pretty, on the cover!!!! When I get a copy I'll take a photo.
Then it was back to "work" at the shop and Wendy was teaching. This quilt uses some of my all time favourite colours. Marie made it for someone who doesn't particularly like flowers. This is something we come up against often...trying to suit someone else's taste. This quilt suits mine and I hope it fits the bill.
This is what I love to see, a group of mesmerized quilters watching Wendy spin her magic. Always, orgainsed, always prepared, Wendy is a teacher that always has more to offer than you expect. Here is an example...
She has been working on the sampler for her class all year. It has a bit of everything in it from wool applique, templates, and bias stems to foundation piecing. Never a dull moment. A few of the gals in the class were doing my Gypsy Kisses quilt. They had chosen a crisp pretty floral for the background so we set about selecting a few fabrics.
What is next?
This week we also got the pattern/kits done for Big Fluffy Love with Anna Maria's divine flannel and for the boys made up Dinozag kits with these flannels...
I keep saying it but I'll say it again, flannel with voile on the back...bring on winter baby! I have to say I have fallen in love with flannel. I love the feeling and the way it stays where you put it for applique and piecing.
Although that was only Monday...I must get a wiggle on and get going somewhere else. No rest for the weary unless you are a dog.
Cheeky has decided that this is her spot snuggled between my pillows. Talk about ying and yang...I want to scream get off my bed but she just looks so darn cute in that cozy spot. Life is full of challenging situations...off to the next one but I'll be back. k
Is that Sue Ross pattern available to purchase?
Love it!

Hi Kathy -- Not sure the best way to order, but I'd love to buy the Dinozag kit in the photo -- or a similar one with all those great flannels shown (particularly like the green plaid). I need another project like a hole in the head! But as a mom of boys, those fabrics are too, too good to pass up. Can you just stick it in w/my BOM this month? Thank you! xo

Cheeky knows she's in danger of being shooed off the bed -- look at those eyes! What a cutie.
