A great post. Very though provoking. The Internet and blogging have certainly opened up the world to us.
I would love to see the Love Lace exhibition.

Thank you for a very thought provoking post. I have found myself wondering lately if we are suffering from information overload and that maybe makes quilters choose simple patterns and fabric choices that are prepared for us, as an easy way out. But then again there is so much new and exciting happening in the quilt world and so many choosing their own paths, that I am reassured - creativity will always out, so we will always set our on mark on what we make because of who, and where, we are in place, time or our lives.

Kathy, thank you so much for your touching insight! I really REALLY needed this today. I think I'll go back and read it again....

Gread read.......and helps reaffirm my need to be creative on my own and not use patterns - only occasionally as inspiration. I want my OWN quilts - not one just like others have made.

I always love your philosophical thoughts on creativity. If you ever have time to read, I think you'd love the book I'm reading about how the creative process happens, why it happens more in some places, and what kind of groups foster the most creative ideas. It's called IMAGINE, HOW CREATIVITY WORKS, by Jonah Lehrer. You all are doing it so well at MO!

How lucky I am to find this post now. I was just thinking a few days ago that we are where we live - at least as much as "we are what we eat".

I've ended up where I live because of my husband's job and luckily I'm happy here. But if I had ended up in a big city (or in Australia) I think it would have made me a bit different. Not better or worse, just different.

I enjoy your take on this and so many other topics!
