The Hunters Hill Show wasn't the only big ring act on this past weekend as Material Obsession also presented three days of embellishing with Sue Spargo!!! While we walked amongst the quilts there was a hive of sewing going on at their workshop! Accompanied by her sister Wendy Morris, Sue spent three days casting a spell of stitches on her students. The brief was to bring some applique work to embellish and that was just the beginning.
Over three days happy stitchers gathered and sat in steady concentration absorbing as much as possible from Sue's generous and creative headspace.
Sue moves through the room spending time making each student an artist of her wizardry.
Sue and Wendy are a strong team. It was interesting to me to watch them interact. It seemed as though the messages were crossing between them without a word as they examined the world around them. They handled fabric with an intensity I rarely see but really enjoy. It is fun to see what catches their eye when out and about and I wondered several times how I would see our short time together be transformed in their hands!
Our lives are enriched by these experiences...the ones that stretch our mind and make us think differently about how we do things.
The materials are luscious combinations of gorgeous coloured wools, velvets, silk threads and more accented by the textures of knots, whip stitches and so much more...the kind of things we save for someday...someday something special will come along.
Wouldn't you love to just sneak inside the head that makes these things and have a bit of a stroll around the memories found there!
It isn't about going fast, of course. It is rather about how we look at life itself and grab the details for a layering of delight. A real lesson in thinking about what we see and how we deal with it as we process the concepts. Not just wool circles...
not just leaves...
not just birds...
not just creative people...
But rather layered, interesting, sharing people encouraging all of us to add layers of beauty to our lives.
I would like to thank Sue and Wendy for bringing a bit of extra texture to our lives this past weekend! k
Wow just gorgeous, wish I could have been there!

oh my god...I sure hope to be able to take a workshop one day with Sue...I met and talked to her for a few minutes in France once, and she is truly an authentic and wonderful person! I love your detailed pictures from the workshops, do you know if Sue has or is planning a book with all of these embroydery stitches?

Instead of taking lunch breaks at the same time every day, work up a rotating schedule that allows everyone to enjoy lunch breaks at different times.
