Six weeks. It's been six weeks since I don't know when and to mark the date I got my pile of cards and reread them. It was a joyfull experience. I cried but because I was happy. Happy that I saw a challenge and faced it...happy that I felt so much from so many...and happy that I got lucky in the end when there were so many moments along the way when I wondered if my luck had run out. I have begun the process of passing on gratitude to those that held me in their heart. I can only hope that in future it is as easy to give as it is to receive.
However, at this particular moment...we are dreading the fact that a Camper shoes shop has opened at Birkenhead Point, just a short block away from where we go for our lunch. It is known to us as the $150 coffee shop as we go for a coffee and come back with a pair of shoes. BAD HABIT!!! John always says that spending money is not saving money but who can pass up a bargain from a company with a slogan like this...
Yes! Life lovers welcome!!!! During the last six weeks I have had some lovely moments with family and friend. Although it looks like my very beautiful friend Bill is bored to tears the rest of the night watching Oscar play rugby in the rain was fun! That would be Oscar in the background suiting up for the game just before the clouds opened and we ran for shelter!
One day I even got a ride in his "new" car which looks a bit like a life lovers suitcase! Gym gear, skateboard, runners, undies and a few water bottles rolled around at my feet. Go for it I say!
I have also received some lovely images from quilting friends. Here is a beautiful version of my Over the Border quilt in MO two by Cassandra Allen! How delicious does it look with that shot cotton stripe border and the solid background! I think I might have to make it again now seeing this shot. Do you ever do that? Make a quilt again? I have only done it twice...no three times. I might start to do it again but the design process would most certainly in a moment of "been there, done that" take me somewhere else. Might be a good challenge...and oh hear, just got an idea...gotta go...just kidding but I did get an idea!
Here is Pip's version of Uzbek Patches. How heavenly does it look with the light behind it! And the borders are really beautiful!!!
This is another one I'd love to make again. Having said that, my stack of projects after six weeks of thinking is ridiculous. Now that I am back to work and swallowed up by the day after day routine the panic is setting back in that I won't have time to make them all. I don't know about you but I find that particular panic a sleep distrubing phenomenon. It must be controlled or the urge to make ruins the process and likely the product. Go slow. Go good. HMMMMMM. Remember the rest!
Here is another pile of attractive - and I mean it is attracting my attention now! - fabric by Marcia Derse. Since first setting eyes on this stuff two years ago I have been in love. FINALLY found the distributor and am fully stashed with possibilities. Marcia does pattern solids like no one else and at the moment I am loving them with the Kaffe shot cottons!
Just one more project from the "rest" period...a rubbish drive chair find now being transformed into a thing of beauty. I think I'll go for a solid cushion but am loving this for a quick project!
And of course we all read magazines when resting. How about this cover girl!!!! Marg George is the cover quilt maker for Quilt Mania this month!!! Known for her whimsical charm and delightful manner this is a must have...must make...
Rest time is over. Back to life loving...I mean work. Moving on from the "confinement" doesn't mean I'll forget the lessons learned or the kindness of loved ones and strangers alike. What's the lesson? Life lovers welcome!
So wonderful to hear you're feeling in top form and looking forward to being back at work again!!
Continue to be kind to yourself and ease into work gently.
Sending you positive thoughts
love Liz xx

I'm happy to hear you so upbeat. Save your cards and re read them in a few years, that's what I did and cried all over again.
Love that star quilt, so vibrant. Quilers last night at my guild were chatting about taking your class at Sisters this summer!

I always read your blog posts at the perfect moment. Here I am whining about being at everyone's beck and call ON MY HOLIDAY and really I should be grateful that I'm alive! That I have friends and family who rely on me! And that I'm able to give back to the quilting community that has given me SO MUCH over the last 15 years.
The only thing I can say about Campers is "thank goodness they don't make them in size 11 and 12!"

I was in Australia in February & meant to get to the shop but things conspired to make it not happen. I have also been so busy since I came home that I have not had time for blogs & have just started to catch up.
It is truly astounding what live delivers while we are not watching.
I was very saddened to hear of your illness but am so thrilled to bits to hear that you have come out OK.
Let me add my own sincere heartfelt good wishes for your recovery. If anyone can get there with positive thinking it surely must be you. Sending you loads of love & light.

Go slow, Go good is excellent advice, sometimes I think we try to pack too much in and forget about enjoying the quilt making process.
I am so enjoying handquilting my Uzbek Patches and seeing the quilt emerge.
