Oh the glamour of travel...
Lugging suitcases, late planes, missed communication about hotel rooms in crowded cities...But the laughs, the sites, the mix of new and old friends makes up for all of it. The MO posse reunited at the Portland airport, loaded up our tank of a car with 7 huge suitcases and found a few hotel room in a city crowded with holiday makers.
LeeAnn came to visit on Saturday and brought with her quilts for us to see in person. LeeAnn is one of my favourite quilters. She always finds the influences and traditional quilts that make me ache to sew. She has a great eye and we spent a happy time looking at them in reatlity before our tour of Portland started. I particularly liked this one made with a large variety of buttons that made the mind wander through the appropriate fashions of a day.
Her house quilt needs to be on my block...
And this version...well...you can see for yourself what a delight it is full of treasures.
Our first stop was the Pendelton blanket shop. We all went nuts surrounded by the pattern and texture of these homestead products. Given our passion for Waggas this was a mind spinner. I have always since my childhood loved the graphic patterns and woodsy colours of the Pendelton blankets that made me feel as though I could just head off on the wagon train.
I think I might actually have been one of the women in this photo in a past life.
Here so far from home we found a touch of Rosalie Gascoigne style found object sculpture.
This vehicle made me feel right at home and one of you knows why!
After hitting a hot spot for lunch we headed to Bolt where we found lots of special fabrics.
Now it is late at night but thanks to Hannah and Amy (hoping I got the names right) for making us feel right at home in their shop that had so many of our favourite fabric designs on hand.
Then this place...
Set up for visiting sewers. I LOVE this place as a welcoming haven for sewers to gather and use top notch Bernina machines in a well lit environment.
so...so many inspiring moments and captured images of things to ponderm, acquire and share. My poor roommate the starling Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts is trying to sleep so it is time to shut down. Hopefully I'll bet my links up and going tomorrow so you can see her many talents! ta ta for now...k
sounds like you are having a blast!thanks for sharing - love the blanket place - they look so rustic and would be perfect in the camper.

I am so bummed about not being able to get into your Hidden Woman class in Sisters! I have all the materials and am ready to begin it here in NE Washington state but it just won't be the same without your infectious smile, enthusiasm and talent. Please, please return close to here again soon.

Oh my!! I am beyond jealous!! and Julie gets to be your roommate??? Oh!! She is one lucky girl:-) I adore your work as well as hers - I've been privileged to meet her at quilt shows - what a great adventure for you both. Thanks so much for sharing. I love the inspirations.

Jealous is an inadequate adjective. Playing in San Fransicso, spending time in Portland with my dear friend, LeeAnn and seeing her brilliant quilts is a treat. Then off to Sisters - one of the most special places in NW USA. I know you are missing out on all the delights at home, yet you must be having such a fabulous trip. Your photos and writing help me live vicariously with you on your journey. What a delight.
