I woke up this weekend and was overwhelmed by a feeling of achievement. Suddenly, after graduation and so many other big things this year it felt as though I might be catching up with my own life. I am known to say, "as soon as this (insert event, class, trip, project, pattern...and a few BIG surprises coming soon!!!) I'll be right!" Which means I gauge my days by what is coming up on my list. lt is a constant struggle to stay present, in the moment but I try...so today arrives and I feel in control of the thrills. That is until I look at my calendar or emails or the laundry room and realise it never changes but for the moment, the pressure seems to be easing.
Heads up on two things...first, there is a new range of fantastic grahic prints called Dogma by David Hearn. I still remember the day we saw it for the first time. The Material Obsession crew gathered around the pictures of the fabrics oohing and ahhing, pointing and exclaiming.
When it finally arrived last week...or was it two weeks ago??? it lived up to expectations. Great colour combinations, great graphic prints and lots of fun to mix with Denyse Schmidts lively plaids.
The fabric is fabulous but on equal thrill is the Hex N More template by Julie Herman of Jaybird Quilts. I am a self confessed template addict. I see one and have to check it out. Julie was my roommate in Sisters and when she showed me her template I was immediately impressed with the concept and even more with the simple instructions for so many uses. It's in stock now and should be up on the website later today.
So, here's the story...crazy gorgeous fabric range, new tool...you can imagine the rest. In no time the shapes were cut. In more no time they were on the design wall and before I could say, "I'd better stop to feed the family," it was sewn together. Actually, I did stop to feed the family but the point is that the template cuts accurately and then it is easy to sew it together perfectly. I kept marveling at my points! Don't be scared off by inset seams as they are simply a rite of passage. When shapes are cut right they are easy to sew right.
Now I just need to start quilting it!
That was a great project for one of those days when the urge to make was greater than the time needed for other tempting projects. The last couple days at the shop have been classes with Marg George and Sue Cody. The work done here speaks of hours of needle work, quite moments stolen from the day and in the end the product makes us stop just to look.
Many of you have been emailing about the following project looking for a pattern and now I am happy to say, the quilt is finished and Sue is finalising the pattern details soon! If you want your name on a presale list pop me an email. Forgive my momentary lapse of memory but I just can't think oif what Sue is calling it but suffice to say, it's been worth the wait!
So really, just when I thought I might be catching up the lure of go slow projects rears its head! I want to make all these quilts. Truth be told I have been doing lots of paper pieced projects lately and loving it. As the list is reduced I can now imagine a night quilting followed by a night on the papers and every once in a while a quilt just whipped up in a day.
One of the other things I am following out of the corner of my eye is imquilternity's quilt along with my Fractured Quilt. Check it out, she is doing a great job and if you are participating in it as well, send me a link. I know Sally is doing TWO!
Time to hit the cutting mat! Yes, part of the plan is to take a day off. Our sale is still running for the rest of the month with specials changing all the time. It was fun on Saturday filling shopping bags with long awaited for treats. Had your eye on something? It just might be on sale...feeling very generous with the warmer weather. On to the next thing...k

Goodness, I also wished I lived in Sydney! There's so much inspiration in your shop, and so many extremely talented quilt makers pushing the limits. So very exciting! I've ordered the template and can't wait to start cutting. Thank you!

I recently purchased one of those Hex n More rulers for a porject I am making. I was in your store on Monday and saw that amazing hexagon/star quilt and had no idea it was cut with one of those rulers. You are so right. It makes cutting and piecing SO easy. I love it. I am now very inspired by that quilt...and my ruler...my mind is racing.
